The Lost Allotments of Frome

One group of members are looking at changing patterns of growing fruit and vegetables in the area. We want to trace the history of allotment use in Frome and find out why there are so few allotments compared with other parts of Somerset. Do Frome people prefer to grow at home? Are they less interested in growing their own food? At the moment, we don't know.

In particular, we are keen to hear from people who used to cultivate plots at the Broadway (Ring O'Bells) site and at the Willow Vale site above Rodden Meadow. What crops grew well there? Were there difficulties as well as pleasures? How and why did people stop growing there?
